Kabbalat Shabbat and Tu B'Shevat Seder 6:00 - 9:00 PM St. Paul's Episcopal Church
Jefferson & Tyler, Uptown PT
We will gather at 6pm to integrate to ritual gifts from our 16th century ancestors of S’fat; our weekly Kaballat Shabbat liturgy and the Tu Bishvat Seder of fruits, nuts, and glasses of grape beverages (juice and wine). The melodious and joy filled “Tu BishShabbat” Seder will be led by Perry Spring and our newly ordained Rabbinic Pastor Stephanie Reith. Yvonne Jarosz will bring us into the Sinai revelation with a creative exploration of this week’s Torah portion “Yitro”, and Brian Rohr will share with us with his storytelling. Many others will help create beautiful Seder tables and platters of fruit.   (see more info below)

Israel and the Iranian Nuclear Threat
How dangerous a threat to the survival of Israel and its people is the Iranian possession of missile-deliverable nuclear weapons? In light of Iranian threats to destroy "The Zionist State," what can and should Israel do to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear arsenal? What is the role, if any, of the United States in this situation?

These are questions that will be addressed by a distinguished panel as Program 4 of the Current Jewish Issues Forum held at Congregation Kol Shalom. Panelists will include Steve Leach, a former US diplomat and Ben Kirkendall, a nuclear scientist who worked with the United Nations agency charged with nonproliferation. The panel will be moderated by Lewis Mandell who has been a Professor at Tel Aviv University and who has written a book on Israel.

This forum will be held on Thursday, February 16, at 7:30 PM and is open to everyone without charge.

A play at the Rose in Feb. & March: Travelling Light

Estimated running time: 3 hours

How had a twenty-two-year-old layabout made a discovery that would elude every other cinematic pioneer for years to come?

In a remote village in Eastern Europe, around 1900, the young Motl Mendl is entranced by the flickering silent images on his father's cinematograph.  Bankrolled by Jacob, the ebullient local timber merchant, and inpsired by Anna, the girl sent to help him make moving pictures of their village, he stumbles on a revolutionary way of story-telling.  Forty years on, Motl -- now a famed American film director -- looks back on his early life and confronts the cost of fulfilling his dreams.
